Jose Iglesias Makes Ridiculous Bare-Handed Play
Remember when the Detroit Tigers edged their way into the Jake Peavy trade by sending Brayan Villarreal to the Red Sox in exchange for shortstop Jose Iglesias? This is why they did that:
Completely ridiculous. The bare-handed scoop followed by a sidearm throw to first is something that we've seen from a lot of shortstops before, but the degree of difficulty on this play was off the charts. Iglesias had to come at the ball from an angle, skip across its trajectory before reaching back towards his right to get a hand on it, and then flick it to first without ever taking a moment to set himself or work up any momentum to put behind his throw. The combination of speed, coordination, and arm strength it took to pull this play off is unreal. Just watch it a few more times, will you?
