Red Sox Get Jake Peavy In Three-Team Deal
Late last night, we finally got some TRADE FUCKING DEADLINE action thanks to a three-team deal struck by the Red Sox, White Sox, and Tigers. Boston comes away from the deal with the most meaningful upgrade, nabbing Jake Peavy in exchange for shortstop Jose Iglesias and a bushel of prospects.
Peavy, who owns a 4.28 ERA and a sparkling 4.47 strikeout-to-walk ratio, will immediately bolster a rotation that's been treading some water since Clay Buchholz hit the DL with a shoulder injury. Once Buchholz returns, the Sox will be able to field a rotation that rivals any in the American League. Peavy by no means puts the Red Sox over the top in the AL East, but his presence does mean that their fight to the death with the Tampa Bay Rays will continue to be hotly contested and worth getting excited about as we head into the season's final stretch.
Also, this is a sneakily savvy move for the Tigers, who come away from the trade with Iglesias, a defensive wizard at shortstop who will fill in nicely for the soon-to-be suspended Jhonny Peralta. The Tigers' pitching staff will surely enjoy having someone who doesn't have the lateral quickness of a rhinoceros anchoring their infield.
The Red Sox have fired the first shot, so get to it, MLB! We need more hot TRADE FUCKING DEADLINE action.
