Ladies: If You Don't Want Men Looking At You Through A Peephole, Stop Watching Sports

I've read this column by US News & World Report writer Bonnie Erbe three times to see if I'm possibly taking the quote out of context or missing a broader issue or accidentally inhaled WD-40 but, sadly, I have not.
Much has been said about the hysterical and hypocritical reactions to the Erin Andrews peephole videos all across traditional and new media, but Erbe's is uniquely preposterous. Erbe, a media columnist who specializes in women's issues, not only agreed that this incident was a byproduct of barbaric sports culture and the tongue-wagging blogosphere, but took it 400 steps beyond those silly notions and went all scorched earth on our asses:
I wish women would stop propping up men's sports. If women didn't attend NFL games or NBA games, or even watch them on TV to help drive up ratings, they would be doing more to stop men from behaving badly than they could ever do otherwise. If they encouraged their sons to play sports instead of paying to watch other people play baseball or football or basketball or soccer, they would be sending the message that athleticism is good, but pro sports culture is bad. And it is, nothing but bad.
Let that simmer.
