Mac Morgan dominates as Texas clubs Florida at WCWS
Texas' Mac Morgan (55) celebrates a strike out in the first inning the Women's College World Series game between the Texas and Florida at Devon Park in Oklahoma City, Saturday, June, 1, 2024. Mac Morgan allowed just one hit and top-seeded Texas had two big innings at the plate as the Longhorns beat Florida 10-0 in five innings in a Women's College World Series winner's bracket game in Oklahoma City.
The Longhorns, 2-0 in the WCWS for the first time since 2003, have allowed just two hits in their first two games.
Florida (52-14) will take on Alabama in an elimination game Sunday, while Texas advances to Monday's semifinals.
The Longhorns (54-8) will take on UCLA or Stanford with two chances to win one game to advance to the WCWS Championship Series.
Texas poured it on quickly, scoring five in the first highlighted by Alyssa Washington's three-run home run to left-center.
That was plenty for Morgan, who took a no-hitter into the fifth before Katie Kistler hit a hard grounder that Washington couldn't handle at second for the Gators' first hit of the game.
But Morgan quickly got a double play ball, then got a grounder to end the game.
The Longhorns scored five more in the fourth, all with two outs.
Mia Scott led off a string of seven consecutive Texas batters to reach safely with a solo homer. After back-to-back singles, Katie Stewart homered to put the game into run-rule territory.
