Man Who Threw Hot Dog At Tiger Woods Was "Inspired By The Movie Drive" To Do Something "Epic"
The man who attempted (and failed) to throw a hot dog at Tiger Woods at the Frys.com Open last weekend has been identified. He is Brandon Kelly, a 31-year-old from Petaluma, Calif., and he is really into the movie Drive.
The Santa Rosa Press Democrat caught up with Kelly after he was named in the police report, and he admitted that it was he who wasted the perfectly good hot dog, and then he gave a perfectly rational insane explanation for the assault:
The idea, he said, was formed after he watched a movie about a stunt driver who moonlights as a getaway driver.
"I threw the hot dog toward Tiger Woods because I was inspired by the movie ‘Drive,'" Kelly said. "As soon as the movie ended, I thought to myself, ‘I have to do something courageous and epic. I have to throw a hot dog on the green in front of Tiger.'"
Kelly declined to elaborate on his motivation and said he had initially hoped to remain anonymous.
Here is the trailer for , which we have seen. It is awesome, and it does contain a particularly moving scene in an elevator, but it does not include a single hot dog.
The Press Democrat reported that on the morning of the incident, Kelly posted a picture on his Facebook of "a hot dog in his hand in front of his vehicle's steering wheel and speedometer," and that later in the morning he reported he'd had a bloody Mary (or ten?) and was headed to the green "to watch Tiger Woods play 18 holes." He did not mention that he would throw a hot dog at the golfer on the seventh green. Kelly was arrested on suspicion of disturbing the peace, and will likely have to pay a fine and perform community service for the misdemeanor.
Kelly said that he wishes Tiger the best, and that he hopes he'll break Jack Nicklaus' record one day.
