Maria Sharapova Wins French Open
Maria Sharapova defeated Simona Halep 6-4, 6-7 (5), 6-4 to win the French Open. In a tremendous match, Halep took an early lead in the third set, lost it, and then battled back to break Sharapova's serve, evening the set at 4-4. But Sharapova returned the favor and broke Halep to take 5-4 lead and won the championship on her serve with powerful ease.
This is the second French Open win, and fifth major overall, for Sharapova and she called today the toughest Grand Slam final she ever played. She also credited Halep, who was playing in her first Grand Slam final ever, for playing a great match.
