Marshawn Lynch Calls NFL Network To Announce He's Holding Out
Beast Mode now includes telling your organization to shove it via the NFL Network. Earlier this evening, Marshawn Lynch called his former Seahawks teammate, and current NFL Network analyst, Michael Robinson and let him know that he was holding out of training camp and Robinson relayed the information on air.
Lynch has two years left on the four-year, $30 million deal he signed in 2012 and is due to make 5.5 million this year. As Robinson explains, Lynch just wants the team to recognize his value to the franchise and pay him accordingly. It's a tough spot for an aging running back to pretend like he has any leverage—and 28 is aging for a bruiser like Lynch—but this is all he has. His only leverage is his presence, so he's pulling it. He will be docked $30,000 for each day he misses.
This is a pretty wild way to announce his intentions, but also for Marshawn Lynch-y. He's notoriously prickly with the media so what better way to get his message out while also not relying on the media he usually avoids? Call your buddy at the League's mouthpiece and let everyone know that way.
