McGwire Returns To Site Of Much Needle Poking
This image was lost some time after publication. Apparently, Mark McGwire is finally available to talk about the past. In one of his very few public appearances since his retirement — we count that testimony before Congress, Jack Buck's funeral and a bunch of golf tournaments — the once-beloved-now-embattled slugger will attend the final weekend festivities at Busch Stadium at beginning of October. As we can attest, Cardinals fans aren't known for either holding grudges or for their talent at heckling, so he can probably expect a rousing ovation.
Still, McGwire has kept such a low public profile that we wonder if he'll show up all Howard Hughes-like, wearing a gas mask, carrying bottles of his own pee and sporting foot-long fingernails. His speech: "Thank you, St. Louis, for all your support, particularly with helping get rid of all these BUGS!"
