Royals starter Brady Singer would love to get his ERA under three with a good performance here against a team he held to three hits over seven scoreless innings in his only game against them this season.

Sure, that was way back in his first start of 2024, and Singer has allowed 16 hits in his last two starts, but in his previous two before that, he pitched 14 innings of shutout ball.

I also fancy Singer to be dialed in, as this is a monster series with these two teams sitting only a handful of games behind the division-leading Indians and separated by just a half-game.

English Championship: Luton vs. Burnley

Kudos to the fixture gurus here, as they have us a tasty matchup to close the opening week between two teams relegated from the Premier League last season.

Luton were so close to staying up in the top league, while Burnley were a complete disaster in the top flight and saw their manager somehow earn the job at Bayern Munich! 

Talk about falling upstairs!

As is usually the case with relegated teams, both of these clubs are among the favorites to win the championship. With that in mind and this being the big Monday night game of the week, I don’t see the value on either side here.

However, early-season games like this normally see some goals as the defenses take a little while to get used to the pace of the regular season, so I’m going with the old, time-tested BTTS. If you really want to bet on a result, I like the draw value.

As an aside, these two teams played close BTTS games last season, with Burnley winning the first meeting 2-1 and the second meeting finishing 1-1.

New York Yankees at Chicago White Sox

Is there really a whole lot of analysis to dive into other than one team is pretty dang good and the other is historically bad?

The White Sox have shown some chutzpah here and there of late, but Luis Gil struck out 14 last time out against Chicago, and he seems to have gotten his stuff together of late (one run or fewer allowed in four of his last five starts). Oh, yeah, and Aaron Judge is going for home run No. 300.

I’m going to be a little brave here and hope the Yankees smash ‘em as they really should.
