Now Jerry Hairston Has The Ball, Now He Doesn't
You really have to watch all of the video below to figure out what the hell happened here. Chris Young led off the Diamondbacks' ninth by blooping a ball down the left field line. Young figured he could make it to second before Jerry Hairston could throw him out, so off he went. But, somehow, the ball wound up in the stands down the left field line, and Young was awarded third base. Huh?
Legendary Dodgers announcer Vin Scully was just as confused as everyone else, at least until he got to see the replay: "Oh, no fan interfered; the ball just came to the fan." Indeed it did, as you can see for yourself at the 45-second mark. Young later scored on a fielder's choice, but what Hairston did with the ball is what we'll always remember.
