Duncan McGuire, Facundo Torres and Ivan Angulo scored first-half goals for Orlando (17-7-9, 60 points), which defeated the Revs for the first time since a 2-1 extra-time victory in the 2019 U.S. Open Cup. The Lions improved to 9-3-5 at home this season with the win.
Carles Gil recorded a brace for New England (14-8-10, 52 points), which saw its winless streak stretch to 12 consecutive road matches (0-6-6) across all competitions. The Revs are now 3-7-6 in away matches in MLS regular season play. The loss was the first for the Revs in 11 MLS matches against Orlando (6-1-4).
Orlando held a 3-1 lead at halftime.
McGuire opened the scoring by heading a cross from Dagur Thorhallsson past Earl Edwards Jr. in the 31st minute for his 11th goal of the season.
The Lions doubled their lead six minutes later when Torres' left-footed strike off a feed from Angulo found the net for his 14th of the season.
Gil responded for the Revs in the 42nd minute with a strike from outside the area for his 10th goal of the season.
Just before the halftime whistle, Angulo restored Orlando's two-goal lead off a through ball from Torres for his fifth of the season.
Gil pulled the Revs to within one in second-half stoppage time when his strike from outside the box deflected off Orlando defender Robin Jansson and past Pedro Gallese for his 11th of the season. The goal was the 25th goal contribution of the season for the Spanish midfielder — a career high.
Up next, New England travels to Nashville next Saturday, while Orlando concludes the MLS regular season on Oct. 21 in Toronto.
