Oscar Pistorius's Bathroom Door Makes A Court Appearance
The eighth day of Oscar Pistorius's murder trial featured a reenactment of the moments following the shooting of Reeva Steenkamp, when Pistorius said he tried to break down the bathroom door to get to her. At issue was a key part of Pistorius's testimony—his claim that he strapped on his prosthetics before attempting to reach her.
Forensic expert J.G. Vermeulen, using the actual bathroom door from Pistorius's home and the actual cricket bat, demonstrated his belief that the damage indicates that Pistorius was low to the ground when he struck the door, most likely on his stumps. Pistorius's defense is that he mistook Steenkamp for a burglar, fired four shots through the door, then put on his prosthetic blades before breaking down the door.
