Reds activate OF Stuart Fairchild, DFA Edwin Rios

The team designated veteran infielder Edwin Rios for assignment to make room on the active roster.
Fairchild, 28, has not played since July 6 due to what the team called a "spine-disc injury."
He is batting .224 with five homers, 23 RBIs and 11 stolen bases through 72 games this season.
Rios, 30, appeared in five games for Cincinnati and went 1-for-9 at the plate with four strikeouts.
