Referee Hit With Smoke Bomb Thrown By Tottenham Supporter
West Midlands police arrested two men believed to be responsible for tossing a flare or a smoke bomb onto the pitch during yesterday's Tottenham Hotspur-Aston Villa match. In footage that was broadcast to viewers on Sky Sports 1, which you can watch below, the smoke bomb struck assistant referee David Bryan in the neck. Bryan was not injured.
The names of the men arrested were not released, but multiple reports say they are 25 and 47 years old, respectively. The smoke bomb was thrown from a section of Tottenham supporters just after an Andros Townsend goal in the 31st minute. There was a brief delay before the match resumed, and the Football Association has said it will investigate.
