Reports: Browns Will Cut Johnny Manziel In March
Welp, that will about do it for the Johnny Manziel era in Cleveland. The Browns released a cryptic statement about Manziel this afternoon, and now there are reports that he will be officially cut next month.
First, the Browns’ statement:
“We’ve been clear about expectations for our players on and off the field. Johnny’s continual involvement in incidents that run counter to those expectations undermines the hard work of his teammates and the reputation of our organization. His status with our team will be addressed when permitted by league rules. We will have no further comment at this time.”
This was likely brought on by Manziel’s latest off-field incident, which saw him questioned by police after getting into an alleged altercation with his ex-girlfriend. The reason the statement is so vague is that the Browns can’t afford the $4.6 million cap hit that would come from cutting Manziel until the cap increases in March. Despite the murky statement, multiple NFL reporters are saying that Manziel’s time in Cleveland is over:
Feel free to start thinking about what a disaster Manziel will be on the Cowboys next season.
