Simone Biles Makes The Absurd Look Routine
credits: Pascal Le Segretain | source: Getty Simone Biles is set to return to competition this weekend at the U.S. Classic in Columbus, Ohio. And in the podium training session today, she showed that she’s set to pick up right where she left off at the Olympics—by winning everything in dominant fashion with incredible skills that virtually no one else can do.
Check out this tumbling pass from training:
This skill—a double layout with two twists—is far more difficult than what she competed in Rio where she did the pass with just one twist. This skill, called “the Moors” for Canadian gymnast Victoria Moors, is the highest rated tumbling skill in the women’s Code of Points. But as she seems to do everything, Biles does this skill better than anyone else who has attempted it. She practically waits until the second flip before she initiates the twists and then has to jam both of them into that last rotation. This is the kind of thing we’ve come to expect from Biles—the hardest skills performed as though they were basic elements.
