A rescue team in Oshkosh, Wis., is searching the icy waters of the Fox River for a person reported to have fallen in, while police are looking for a missing man they have identified as Michael T. Philbin. According to local reports, Philbin is the 21-year-old son of Green Bay Packers offensive coordinator Joe Philbin.
Michael Philbin, who had come to visit friends in the vicinity of University of Wisconsin-Oshkosh, was last heard from around 2 a.m. Sunday, and he was reported missing to police at 8:15 p.m. last night. An employee at an autoparts manufacturer on High Street, located just along the river, had called for an emergency crew at 2:30 a.m. Sunday after thinking he heard someone call for help from the river. Tipster Jeffrey emailed to say this about the area in question:
I went to UW-Oshkosh for a year, and that part of the river where they body went missing is the perfect place to go for a drunken piss at 2am... its right across the street (High street, of course) and behind a building from the main part of campus.
UPDATE (5:46 p.m. EST): The body has been found, and the Packers have been informed it is indeed Michael Philbin.
