Stetson University Football Player Dies After Collapsing At Practice
Photo via [object Object] Stetson University released a statement Monday announcing that 19-year-old sophomore linebacker Nick Blakely had died after collapsing on the field earlier in the day. Blakely had reportedly gone to the sidelines shortly after practice started and said he wasn’t feeling well.
According to a police report obtained by News 6, Blakely was drinking water when his pulse quickened and he had what appeared to be a seizure. He was taken to Florida Hospital DeLand, where he was pronounced dead.
Stetson announced that they would make counselors available to speak with Blakely’s teammates, many of whom posted remembrances online.
Blakely redshirted his freshman season and was expected to make his college football debut this weekend at Sacred Heart.
