Mandatory Credit: Scott Sewell-Imagn Images Texas Tech held Kansas State scoreless for the game's final 5:49 and sent the Wildcats to a fourth consecutive loss with a 61-57 decision on Tuesday night in Manhattan, Kan.
The Red Raiders (12-4, 3-2 Big 12) had a seven-point lead, 53-46, with 10:55 left to play in the second half before giving up an 11-4 Kansas State run that culminated with Coleman Hawkins' jump shot at the 5:50 mark.
Hawkins' make made it 57-57, and while the Wildcats struggled offensively during the final minutes of the contest, Texas Tech found points in short supply, too.
Elijah Hawkins broke the 57-57 deadlock just 22 seconds after Kansas State (7-9, 1-4) drew even, and the Red Raiders did not score again until Darrion Williams converted a layup with 17 seconds remaining in regulation.
That bucket gave Williams a game-high 16 points on 7-of-15 shooting from the floor. Elijah Hawkins finished with 14 points in the win, and he also dished out nine assists.
Federiko Federiko came off the bench to add nine points, and Christian Anderson notched another eight points in reserve duty. Texas Tech put together a strong performance from the floor, going 26-for-52 (50 percent).
Kansas State, meanwhile, went just 19-for-52 from the floor (36.5 percent) despite having four scorers in double figures. Brendan Hausen hit 3 of 8 3-point attempts en route to 13 points, Coleman Hawkins finished with 12 points, David N'Guessan scored 11 points and Max Jones had 10 points and nine rebounds.
Federiko made good on a three-point play with 14:42 left in the game to ignite a 13-0 run that put Texas Tech up 51-44.
The Red Raiders led by as many as eight on multiple occasions before the break, but Kansas State closed the first half on a 15-5 run that featured two triples from Hausen and one from N'Guessan, with the outburst allowing the hosts to take a 33-31 edge into intermission.
