One of the most essential parts of college football is the tradition. With that tradition comes some of the best uniforms in all of sports.

When you think of Oregon, Ohio State, Texas, Tennessee or USC, not only do you remember these teams for winning big games or taking home Heisman trophies, but you can instantly picture some of their most classic uniform combinations.

Unfortunately, not every team in college football can be blessed with incredible five-star talent year after year. However, they still might have some sick uniforms.

Going into this year, here are some of the best uniforms in college football that will be wasted on terrible football teams.

Florida State: o6.5 Wins (-130)

Last season was one of the most disappointing in Florida State history. Fresh off an undefeated 2023 regular season, FSU was looking to keep that same momentum rolling, but everything that could go wrong went wrong for head coach Mike Norvell.

This year could be similar for the Seminoles. Even with a very respectable No. 6 transfer class this past offseason, it’s not clear the newcomers will be enough to make significant leaps forward.

And the bigger issue? Is Mike Norvell a very good football coach? He had one of the more talented rosters in the ACC last season, yet he still went 2-10. There are significant doubts that he’s good enough to be consistently successful.

Norvell might not be a great coach, but I’m not sure many in the country could win a ton of games with Tommy Castellanos in 2025. That doesn’t mean these aren’t some of the best uniforms in all of sports.

With all the smack Castellanos has been talking in the offseason, he’d better back it up by more than looking cool in garnet and gold.

Purdue: o2.5 Wins (-180)

There is a world where Florida State wins eight to 10 games.

I’m not sure there’s a universe where Purdue wins five.

The Seminoles have the most classic uniforms being wasted, but the Boilermakers might have some of the most underrated in college football.

Purdue’s traditional gold helmets are some of my favorites, and even at their worst, still make me think they’re going to pull off every home night game upset on the schedule. The subtle changes they made by updating the white trim on their jerseys took these to the next level.

But the real tragedy?

Wasting what are the best all-black uniforms in college football should be a sin, punished by relegation to the FCS. At least basketball doesn’t waste its great jerseys.

Kent State: o1.5 Wins (-185)

The worst team in FBS football last season didn’t fire its coach after going 0-12. Then it turned out he was allegedly dealing with gambling debts, which let the school fire him with cause and save a couple of bucks.

This coaching staff has been losing coordinators all summer, and most of the team transferred out in the winter.

Last season was ugly for the Golden Flashes, and this year will undoubtedly be somewhat of a repeat.

But does Kent State have a top-five uniform lineup among non-Power Five programs?

Kent State has not, and will never be, as good a football program as Tulane. The only thing these schools have in common is awesome baby blue football jerseys.

Tulane wins football games and has consistently been a quality Group of Five program. Kent State is nearly as hard to watch as local high school football, but it looks great doing it.

Their dark blue alternates are very reminiscent of the Los Angeles Chargers’ alternates this season, and those could be the best uniforms in the NFL.

It’s such a shame to see these wasted on what might be the worst FBS team for the third year in a row.
