Cardinals starter Alex Reyes struggled to find the strike zone all night, and was yanked with two outs in the fifth for reliever Zach Duke. Duke promptly hit a batter and walked in a run with the bases loaded. In the eighth, the runners Matt Bowman put on base later scored on a fielder’s choice and a sacrifice fly, giving him the loss.
The Cardinals scored in both the second and third innings, but didn’t have a single baserunner past the fourth inning and struck out seven times in the final four innings.
The Cardinals are 68-60 and 30-36 at home. There’s always the next game!
