The Cardinals Lost Their 76th Game
Photo: Jeff Roberson/ [object Object] The St. Louis Cardinals squandered a perfect chance to tie the game in the bottom of the ninth Wednesday as they lost to the Cincinnati Reds, 2-1.
Down 2-1 with no outs, pinch-hitter Kolten Wong hit a leadoff triple off the wall, rousing the home crowd. That was as close as the Cardinals got, however. Reds reliever Raisel Iglesias shut down the next three St. Louis batters for his fifth save of the season.
Iglesias’s composure preserved a one-run, six-inning start by Anthony DeSclafani, who won his ninth game of the year. All of Cincinnati’s run support came in the third inning, when outfielder Adam Duvall hit a two-run RBI single off the Cardinals’ Mike Leake.
The Cardinals are 82-76 and 34-43 at home. There’s always the next game!
