The Lakers Unveiled Their Black Jerseys
I feel contractually obligated to hate alternate jerseys, which are cash grabs of the basest kind. On the other hand, black, purple, and gold look so cool together.
After a couple years of rumors, the Lakers finally and officially revealed their black alternates, which will be worn for "select games" this season. They're awkwardly named the "Hollywood Nights" uniforms, because the design apparently "acknowledges the celebrities like Jack Nicholson that have long supported the team, but also serves as a nod to the huge number of people that work behind the scenes to make up one of L.A.’s biggest industries."
Whatever. It's a product that's going to sell a million replicas, because black jerseys are never not fantastic. The new short-sleeved white jerseys, which will also be worn this season, provide another option. And for the Lakers, who are teetering on the edges of senescence and irrelevance, anything that will bring some more attention and revenue has to be embraced.
