The Patriots Are Sorry They Charged Fans $4.50 For Tap Water

In his new pseudo-health book, Tom Brady warns readers not to drink tap water. “Even when you use tap water for steaming vegetables,” he writes, “it’s better to filter it first.” Sunday, the Patriots ran out of Brady’s precious bottled water at the Gillette Stadium concession stands, and then had the gall to charge $4.50 for the very stuff their star quarterback tells fans not to drink.

While temperatures in the Northeast reached the 80s during the game, vendors at the Patriots’ stadium, which does its concessions in-house, made fans pay for something that should be free. CBS Boston collected a series of fan complaints, including one man who spent $45 on bottled water at the game.

When contacted by CBS Boston, the Patriots said they were sorry:

“We apologize. That should not have happened,” team spokesman Stacey James said. “It is the first time that I have ever heard that complaint here. We are looking into the matter to ensure that it doesn’t happen again.”

Fans will continue to be gouged only for branded bottled water in the future.
