This High Schooler Won The National Wrestling Title In The Coolest Way Possible
With ten seconds remaining in his title bout at the National High School Coaches Association wrestling championships in Virginia, Renaldo Rodriguez-Spencer found himself behind on points and in need of a miracle. He found it in something called " the flying squirrel."
Rodriguez-Spencer—wrestling at 138 pounds, six above his normal weight—flipped over Maryland's Alfred Bannister to score a 4-3 victory and win the national title. The high school junior from Cheektowaga, N.Y. also earned Most Outstanding Wrestler honors at the competition. You can view the whole match here, and while we don't know a great deal about high school wrestling it's an enjoyable watch.
