Tigers make three moves to fill roster vacancies

The Detroit Tigers activated infielder Javier Baez from the medical emergency/bereavement list, while right-hander Brenan Hanifee and left-hander Sean Guenther were recalled from Triple-A Toledo.
The club refilled its active roster after right-hander Jack Flaherty was traded to the Los Angeles Dodgers, left-hander Andrew Chafin was moved to the Texas Rangers and outfielder Mark Canha was dealt to the San Francisco Giants.
Baez, 31, is batting just .178 with a career-worst .484 OPS in 67 games this season. A veteran of 11 major league seasons for the Chicago Cubs (2014-21), New York Mets (2021) and Tigers, Baez is a .251 hitter with a .731 OPS in 1,209 games.
Hanifee, 26, has three career major league appearances, all last season in relief for the Tigers when he had a 5.40 ERA over five innings. He is 1-2 with a 5.17 ERA in 47 innings over 34 relief appearances this season at Toledo.
Guenther, 28, has not appeared in the major leagues since 2021. In his lone major league season, he was 0-1 with a 9.30 ERA in 14 relief outings for the Miami Marlins. He was 3-4 with a 3.86 ERA in 44 1/3 innings over 34 games (two starts) this season at Toledo.
