Tim Howard Blocks Unwanted Hugs, Too

American Hero Tim Howard was lucky enough to have a camera in his face as he came home from Brazil, and with the camera came a crowd of people. TMZ captured the moment that was mostly very nice: the majority of folks just wanted to get an autograph, or a photo, or to just tell Howard "thanks." But one guy got greedy.

I like how everyone involved is polite about this incredibly awkward moment. As this total stranger goes in for an unsolicited hug, Howard pushes him away, but isn't a jerk about it, and just gives him a friendly reminder about personal space and boundaries. Immediately after his embrace is rejected, the eager fan sort of nods, acknowledging that, yeah, that was probably not appropriate; why am I such a socially-awkward weirdo?, and walks away with a sheepish grin on his face.
