Ultramarathon Interrupted By Out Of Control Car
South Africa's Comrades Marathon is the granddaddy of ultramarathons, having been held first in 1921 and nearly every year since inviting runners to traverse the 56 miles between Durban and Pietermaritzburg. This year runners were also invited to avoid spectators fleeing an out-of-control automobile.
South Africa's national broadcaster captured it all here, and while you can see that the car wreck didn't put any runners in danger, it could have been bad news for spectators if they hadn't jumped off that rail at the last second. But, hey! They made an ultramarathon exciting!
