Venus Williams Beats Serena 6-3, 6-4 At Indian Wells
credits: Kevork Djansezian | source: [object Object] The first tournament run of Serena Williams’s comeback ended at the hands of a familiar opponent—her sister, Venus Williams, who defeated her 6-3, 6-4 tonight in the third round at Indian Wells.
This was the first time that Venus beat Serena since 2014, and the first time that she’d done so in straight sets since 2008.
The match got off to a close start, with the first three games going to deuce and no one with a clear hand over the other until No. 8 Venus broke unseeded Serena in the sixth game to go ahead 4-2. She finished up the first set with back-to-back aces before jumping out to take the first three games of the second. Serena broke Venus on her first match point attempt, but the second attempt was all that Venus needed:
