Very Dumb Fan Dives For Live Baseball, Kicks Gregory Polanco In Head
Reaching over the fence for a ball in play is a stupid thing to do as a baseball fan. Falling over the fence for a ball in play and kicking a player in the head is an extremely stupid thing to do as a baseball fan.
During Saturday night's game between the Indianapolis Indians and Lehigh Valley IronPigs, one fan really wanted IronPigs first baseman Jim Murphy's hit, so much so that he reached over the fence for the ball, even though the play was still live. Our protagonist didn't succeed in getting a minor-league souvenir. He did succeed in toppling over the rail and kicking Pirates top prospect Gregory Polanco in the head, though.
Polanco didn't seem fazed—which is fortunate for him and the Pirates—and the umpires recognized the interference. The fan tried to explain himself to an uninterested ball girl before trudging back to who we assume was his embarrassed son. Poor kid.
