Welcome Back, College Basketball: Two Games Ended In Excellent Buzzer Beaters On The First Night Of The Season
It wasn't all imperiled basketball players and disappointed veterans on college basketball's first night back. Above, Alabama and South Dakota St. were tied at 67 going into the final possession when Trevor Lacey got the ball and—well, you should just watch it. Spoiler alert: they didn't go into overtime. A very calm final possession—Alabama ran its set and got their shooter separation. Well-coached! Then everyone freaked out, because there's little better than a college basketball buzzer beater.
Below: Emil Jones of Troy makes the best of a messier final possession, and gets off a shot to break a tie with 1.6 remaining. Mississippi State didn't do anything with the final 1.6, so that's that. College basketball is back and, across the land, young hearts are being broken in the final seconds of hard-fought games. Feels good.
