What's Better Than Hitting A Walk-Off Grand Slam? Stealing One Away.
Rangers outfielder Leonys Martin came to the plate with the bases loaded in the bottom of the ninth inning during yesterday’s game against the Astros, and proceeded to whack what appeared to be a walk-off grand slam. Martin was probably feeling preeeeetty good about himself as he ran toward first base, until George Springer went and crapped all over his moment.
Robbing a home run—especially one that would have won the game—will always be cooler than hitting one, simply because of the emotional turn that comes with it. In one moment, Leonys Martin is a goddamn hero; in the next, he’s standing there in disbelief while George Springer comes charging in from the outfield with the game in his glove.
