Will Johnson Responds To Alleged Gay Slur With Gorgeous Free Kick Goal
It was a feisty match tonight at Jeld-Wen as the Timbers pulled out a 1-0 win over San Jose thanks to a blistering Will Johnson free kick that's as good as any we've seen in MLS this season. It was Portland's best revenge after Earthquakes forward Alan Gordon appeared to deliver a gay slur in Johnson's direction minutes earlier.
Indeed, if there's any doubt as to what Gordon said it can be seen in Johnson's immediate reaction above; his three fingers and what appears to be the words "three games" refer to the standard MLS disciplinary action for dropping an on-pitch "faggot." (Gordon would eventually be dismissed after earning a second yellow card in a separate incident; with the red-card ban alongside what we imagine will be handed down from MLS, the San Jose star won't be seeing the field anytime soon.)
