Woman Plans On Running 52 Marathons In 52 Weeks
A Santa Monica woman, Julie Weiss, just finished her 10th marathon in as many weeks. According to her mission statement, she's got 42 more to go. Last week in Minnesota, she finished the 26.2 mile race in Duluth in four hours and forty minutes.
Weiss is running as a part of Pancreatic Cancer Action Network's TEAMHOPE and is trying to raise $1 million. She is currently at $100,000. She's got a pretty good reason for the ambitious goal:
Her father died of pancreatic cancer in 2010, just one week before the biggest moment in Weiss' running career: qualifying for the Boston Marathon.
Her story is starting to spread with each passing marathon, and rightfully so, it's pretty crazy. On her blog she describes a possible stress fracture in her foot and food poisoning after the Minnesota marathon. In the next breath, she's discussing the next marathon in Hawaii, which started today at 5:30 a.m. local time.
She finished Hawaii in 5:24. So make that 11 marathons in as many weeks.
