Bears vs 49ers Week 17 Sunday Night Football Betting Picks

The San Francisco 49ers will face off against the Chicago Bears in an extremely important Sunday Night Football matchup.

The Bears have found success this season, posting an 11-4 record through 15 games. They’re still playing for seeding. They technically can still steal the top overall seed in the NFC, although it’s unlikely. It’s also unlikely, but they could fall as far as the 7 seed in the conference.

The 49ers are in the same situation. They could fall anywhere from the top seed to the seventh, depending on how the rest of the season plays out. Most importantly, the Super Bowl will be played at San Francisco’s stadium, and they could get home-field advantage throughout the playoffs if they take that top overall seed.

Truthfully, I don’t fully trust the 49ers' defense in this matchup. The Bears want to run the ball, and we’ve seen San Francisco struggle in that area. There’s a very real chance Chicago can control the game on the ground, but I don’t believe they have the offense to stick with San Francisco in a shootout.

The 49ers have seen mixed results at times, but they’ve been hot recently. In five games since Brock Purdy returned, they’re averaging 34.4 points per game. They’ve also scored 85 points over their last two games.

The Bears feature a defense that can create turnovers, but they won’t be able to consistently stop this San Francisco offense. If the 49ers can limit their turnovers in this game, they should come with far too much firepower for Chicago to keep up.

It’s also important to understand the context of some of Chicago’s wins. They have some truly unbelievable wins throughout the season, which is awesome for their fanbase and the excitement of the games. The issue is that they aren’t sustainable.

We’ve seen the Bears do it over and over, but at some point, that luck runs out. They won’t get the onside kick, the 50+ yard touchdown, or the blocked field goal. They’re incredible wins throughout the season, but it doesn’t show the true talent level of the team.

The 49ers are getting healthier, and they’ve quietly been one of the best teams in the NFL. These are the types of games Chicago is going to need to get through the playoffs, and there’s just no reason we should only be laying a field goal with San Francisco playing at home.
