A Lot Of People Made Money Betting Against Undertaker At WrestleMania
The Undertaker's 21-match unbeaten streak at WrestleMania is no more, after a surprise loss to Brock Lesnar last night. Fans were in shock, but no one was happier than those bettors who put money on Lesnar when he was a huge underdog.
According to Forbes, Taker opened at -3000, and by Saturday afternoon, was up to -5000. But a flood of money came in on Lesnar, and at one point on Sunday afternoon, Undertaker was down to -1200. (He would settle back around -2500 by the show's open.)
an online sportsbook told Fox Sports that it took about 1,000 bets on the Undertaker/Lesnar match, with eight times as many people betting on Lesnar.
Don't cry for the sports books today, though. Pro wrestling, being scripted, falls under the umbrella of novelty "entertainment" wagering, and as such the amount anyone can bet is capped. (an online sportsbook's maximum bet for this match was $100.)
