Ben Bishop Stretchered Off Ice After First-Period Injury
The Lightning will be without Ben Bishop after the superstar goalie was stretchered off the ice following a severe injury sustained in the first period of Tampa Bay’s Eastern Conference Final Game 1 matchup against the Penguins.
Bishop suffered a torn groin in last year’s Stanley Cup Playoffs, an injury that visibly hampered him throughout the Finals but wasn’t publicly revealed until the season ended. Tonight’s injury appeared to be to his left leg, as the Vezina finalist landed on it awkwardly and immediately fell, screaming in pain.
Lightning backup Andrei Vasilevskiy is as competent a backup that any team can ask for, but he’s got a tall order stopping the Penguins.
