College Basketball Coach Sinks Half-Court Shot To Pay For Student's Tuition
Gil Cheung is head coach of the men's basketball program at Brandon University in Canada. On Friday, he sank a half-court shot, effectively paying one student's tuition.
The Brandon Bobcats men's and women's hoops teams have held the Smitty's Tuition Shootout at Friday home games: sink a half-court shot, get free tuition for the semester. The prize was at risk of going unclaimed entering in Friday's final home doubleheader against the Regina Cougars. The BU athletic department decided to give entrants the option to let anyone in the building take the shot.
Rather than select a player, Mason Kaluzniak, a phys-ed student, chose his professor Cheung who hit nothing but net.
