Evil Spectator Gets Revenge On Bike Race By Causing High-Speed Crash
Screencap via @ [object Object] The Tour Cycliste Antenne Reunion is about as far on the fringes of the cycling world as you can get. While the top of the pro peloton is touring across either Spain or Britain right now and the second division is busy finishing up their seasons in lesser European races, the remote Indian Ocean island of Reunion (it’s about 600 miles east of Madagascar) is hosting a nine-day tour. During today’s Stage 1 in Le Port, some evil fan pulled a finish barrier across the face of the speeding peloton and took out at least two sprinting riders.
It appears that the breakaway was heading for an intermediate sprint point, so they were at full speed when they fell. The fan who pulled the barrier down was apparently the father of a rider who had fallen earlier in the race. Per a journalist on the scene, he was mad that organizers had not stopped the race to let his son rejoin the peloton after falling.
