Former First Round Pick Now Growing Marijuana, Hoarding Assault Rifle Ammo
We can not, repeat NOT blame the lockout for this one. Jose Ortiz, known as Piculín and revered as a hero in Puerto Rico, was busted this week at his home. Inside ICE agents found "approximately 218 marijuana plants" and 40 rounds of AR-15 ammunition. The criminal complaint, with photos, can be found here.
Ortiz was taken 15th overall by Utah in the 1987 draft. He was already 23 years old, and took a year off to play for Spain before joining the Jazz (he was a pioneering foreign player, in the sense that he's not technically foreign). He got limited minutes in parts of two NBA seasons, but played another 16 years around the world. And after a failed political career, this is apparently what he's up to.
