High School Football Team Kneels During National Anthem
Image: [object Object] The Garfield High School football team in Seattle, Wash., demonstrated together when the players and staff all kneeled for the national anthem before Friday’s game against West Seattle High School.
Several players from West Seattle also took a knee during “The Star-Spangled Banner”:
Garfield head coach Joey Thomas told KING 5 that the players had the idea to kneel, and that they intend on continuing for the rest of the season.
“This came from them,” said Thomas. “This came from the kids. Now don’t get me wrong, I support it 110 percent and that’s where my mind and heart was, but this is what they wanted. And I think that’s what makes this so special. This is student driven.”
Those high school players delivered a clearer message with their gesture than the professional team in town.
