Huma Abedin Dumps Anthony Weiner After Third Sexting Scandal
Weiner and Abedin in a press conference after sexting scandal number two: AP Huma Abedin announced this morning that she is separating from her husband Anthony Weiner, a little over 12 hours after the New York Post revealed that the former congressman and New York mayoral candidate has been engaged in a year and a half-long texting relationship with an anonymous woman that frequently veered into sexting and the exchange of quasi-nude photos, one of which clearly depicted Weiner and Abedin’s young son.
In a curt statement released this morning, Abedin said:
Abedin, a top aide to presumptive president Hillary Clinton, had stuck by Weiner after he was ousted from Congress in 2011 for accidentally posting a photo of his clothed dick to his Twitter account, and again in 2013 after The Dirty reported that he had been sexting with a woman named Sydney Leathers under the instantly legendary pseudonym Carlos Danger. The latter incident, which quashed Weiner’s run for mayor of New York City, was chronicled in the excruciating documentary , which revealed a lot about the couple, the most obvious of which was Abedin’s simmering disgust for her, well, apparently soon-to-be-ex-husband.
None of this is too surprising, because Weiner has more or less let slip in various online mishaps—including the time he sent his phone number to a woman he thought was a college student, and the time he favorited the selfie of a woman who implored men to “indulge your sexual fantasies by having an affair”—that he’s really, really interested in women who aren’t his wife. Now he will presumably have more time to explore that interest, and presumably everyone will be happier for it.
