Jeff Ireland Called A Fan An Asshole After The Fan Made The Reasonable Suggestion That Ireland Should Fire Himself
Do you know anything about the current state of the Miami Dolphins? You'd be forgiven if you didn't, even though they were on Hard Knocks. This year's iteration of everyone's favorite show lacked the compelling personalities of previous ones. It was Chad Ochocinco, Lauren Tannehill, undrafted rookie Jarrell Root, and lots of filler. I'm getting sidetracked here.
While watching the show you could have learned that Jeff Ireland is a terrible general manager who should be fired. He built a team with the third-best rookie quarterback in a two-QB draft, and then he surrounded him with wretched receivers. He also evidently stood by while the entire Texas A&M coaching staff set up operations in Miami. Football Outsiders convincingly called him "the new Matt Millen."
So when a fan at Sunday's game told Ireland he should fire himself, that fan wasn't a crank speaking out of turn. He was right! But Ireland called him an asshole as he was walking away, and so he had to apologize—sort of—to Armando :
"It caught me off guard. I just turned and walked away but I did say the word. I regret I used the word I used. I thought I was using it under my breath. I guess I kind of said it loud enough that he could hear it. I literally said it under my breath. At the time I felt I handled the situation pretty good. Probably muttered it a little too loud. I regret that I said anything."
"At the time I felt I handled the situation pretty good. Probably muttered it a little too loud." Let's get this guy an Executive of the Year award.
