Russell Westbrook Out Four Weeks With Broken Hand
There goes the Thunder's plan for keeping the ship afloat while waiting out Kevin Durant's injury, as they will now be without Russell Westbrook for at least a month. Westbrook broke a bone in his right hand in the team's second game of the season against Thursday, and had surgery Saturday to repair the damage.
This sucks on so many levels. The Thunder will be in a very tough spot, and missing two of the best players in the league for an extended period of time in the uber-competitive West will make it no small task to reach the playoffs. Heck, a serious injury to Ibaka and it might be time to consider tanking. And for the fans, it was a treat to see Westbrook given the keys to the offense, and his first game of the season sans Kevin Durant in Portland was breathtaking.
This is just the latest in a series of shit-luck events for OKC. The first Westbrook knee surgery, Ibaka's calf injury in last season's playoffs and now Durant and Westbrook. It's very early in the season, but it's crazy to think how far removed OKC is (or how little they've moved forward) from the 2012 Finals team.
