Seattle Sports Fans Should Feel Lucky for How Good They Have It Right Now

Embrace this feeling, Seattle sports fans.

On Monday night, the Mariners will face off against the Blue Jays in a series-deciding Game 7 in Toronto at 8:10 p.m.

At 10:00 p.m., the Seahawks will host the Houston Texans at Lumen Field.

Surely, most of the attention should be paid to the Mariners, who have a chance to punch their ticket to the World Series for the first time in their franchise history.

A National League championship is much more important than a regular season football game against an AFC opponent, but this night in Seattle is why we love sports.

Seattle sports fans still mourn the loss of the Supersonics, their NBA franchise that was relocated and rebranded as the Oklahoma City Thunder in 2008. The Sonics were 1979 NBA Champions and the city of Seattle was left with the Seahawks and snakebitten Mariners.

While many fans still believe that Seattle deserves another basketball franchise, those fans have remained dedicated to the teams they have in town.

Surely, everybody attending tonight’s Seahawks game will be pregaming in local bars watching the Mariners, transferring the game to their phone screen upon entry into the stadium. Inversely, fans who made the trip up to Canada to watch Game 7 in person will keep tabs on how the Seahawks are looking to start the game.

The Mariners came into this season with real expectations – and they have lived up to them. Trade deadline acquisitions of Eugenio Suárez and Josh Naylor proved to diehard fans that this was a team that was trying to win it all.

They have capitalized on an underwhelming American League and have an opportunity to right the wrongs of the 1995, 2000 and 2001 teams. The Mariners have existed for 48 years. They have never had a better opportunity to make the World Series.

On the football side of life, the Seahawks have life for the first time in awhile. Even though they are third place in the NFC West, new Seattle head coach Mike Macdonald is building a new culture around Seahawks football.

Sam Darnold, who revitalized his career with the Minnesota Vikings, has become one of the most promising players at the quarterback position. While the Seahawks might not contend for the Super Bowl this year, they are certainly building towards something. Defeating the Texans on Monday Night Football would be further proof of that.

Regardless of what happens on Monday evening in Seattle, their fans should take a moment to appreciate these moments. They do not come very often.
