Mandatory Credit: Mike Frey-Imagn Images Sorana Cirstea is asking that the trophy she recently won at the WTA Tennis in the Lands event be returned to her after she says it was stolen from her hotel room while she was competing in the U.S. Open this week in New York.
Cirstea, 35, won her first WTA singles title since 2021 and just the third of her career on Aug. 23 in Cleveland, defeating Ann Li 6-2, 6-4 in the final.
The Romanian took to social media Saturday night to request her trophy be returned.
"Whoever stole my Cleveland trophy from room 314 at The Fifty Sonesta please give it back!" Cirstea wrote in an Instagram story. "It has NO material value, just sentimental value. It would be (greatly) appreciated!"
Cirstea was eliminated in the second round of the U.S. Open on Thursday, losing in three sets to Czech No. 11 seed Karolina Muchova. She lost her first-round women's doubles match with Russia's Anna Kalinskaya in straight sets to McCartney Kessler and Peyton Stearns.
