Tennessee Survives After Dobbs Fumble Recovered In OT

A putrid night of football in Knoxville turned out the Volunteers’ way when Josh Dobbs’s fumble at the goal line in overtime was gathered in by teammate Jalen Hurd, setting up a 20-13 win after the Tennessee defense stopped Appalachian State’s OT series.
It never should have gotten that far, but freshman Mountaineer kicker Michael Rubino missed a field goal and an extra point to let Tennessee back into the game. The ninth-ranked Volunteers play Virginia Tech at Bristol Motor Speedway next week; at this rate, they’re sure to produce a few NASCAR-level car wrecks against the Hokies.
