What we're watching (all times EDT, unless noted): Versus has Lightning-Capitals in an NHL game that began at 7. TBS has Game 2 of the NLCS between the Cardinals and Brewers at 8. And ESPN has Bears-Lions on Monday Night Football at 8:30.
The real-life inspiration for Jeffrey Eugenides' The Marriage Plot: "In the book, the two are rivals, and while Eugenides insists the resemblance to Wallace is unintentional, The Marriage Plot is unmistakably a portrait of the author's youth and of the loyalties and rivalries that so often arise among ambitious young friends. (Much of the early chatter surrounding the novel has been a who's-who inside-baseball guessing game.) At once a love story, a campus novel, and a bildungsroman, The Marriage Plot is stocked with literary references and choreographed to provide the great page-turning pleasures of realistic fiction-very knowingly. It's the latest salvo, that is, in the debate that has occupied Eugenides's generation for 25 years, about what exactly fiction is for and how a crew of literary newcomers might revive the American novel, which seemed to many of them in danger of irrelevance. The Marriage Plot invites us back to that era when the author and his contemporaries were just starting to rewire their aspirations. What makes the backstory so intriguing is who this crowd was and who they came to be." [New York]

T.O. OD'd?: "Emergency officials were responding to a call about a possible prescription pill overdose when they were dispatched to the L.A. apartment where Terrell Owens was staying last week ... law enforcement sources tell TMZ. As we first reported, Owens was transported by ambulance to an L.A. hospital Thursday night. Cops were also dispatched to investigate — and spoke with T.O. at the hospital. Owens has since been released. A rep for Owens had no comment on the matter." [TMZ]

The clock has yet to strike Tebow time just yet: "John Fox is going to wait a day to announce his starting quarterback. The Denver Broncos coach gave his players the day off Monday and didn't want to let everyone else know before Tim Tebow or Kyle Orton finds out." [AP]
Roosters! In Manhattan! And they're on the loose!: "Fort Tryon Park turned into a hen run Sunday as parks workers, helped by a passing MTA worker, ducked and dived in a comic effort to corral a rogue rooster and its hen. The two Urban Park Rangers and an off-duty MTA conductor's scrambling ended with the chicken in a cage - but their efforts were evaded by the rooster, who's still on the lam." [DNA Info]
Ever wonder what people look like when you scare the shit out of them in a haunted house? Here are 50 photos that answer the question: "We still don't know what it is, exactly, that is causing the following people to stop and drop and lose their effing minds out of terror, but whatever it is, we hope to never find out. Mainly because we look horrendous when terrified…" [Best Week Ever]
