Umpire Jerry Meals is five feet eight inches tall. This is a perfectly respectable height, and one that has not kept him from achieving what we can presume was his lifelong dream of being a Major League umpire. Jerry Meals has made it.

But it is an inescapable truth that, at that height, a relatively slight man like Jerry Meals is significantly smaller than many of the professional athletes and former professional athletes he is tasked with governing. Sometimes, Jerry Meals makes a very bad call, or a call that is perceived as bad, and then these large beefy athlete men get all up (or down) in his notably less-large face.
