Victor Martinez Makes No-Look, Backwards Flip To Record Out At First

Victor Martinez, making just his fourth start at first base this year, made a nice-enough play diving to his left to prevent an extra-base hit to the speedy Jacoby Ellsbury in the sixth inning of a close game against the Red Sox.

He then made an even better play when the ball trickled away from him and he had to make a lunging, backwards toss to his pitcher, who may or may not have even been there. Drew Smyly was there and—shock of shocks—beat the sliding Ellsbury to the bag.
